Francis Wachira is a livestock farmer from Makadara. He is popularly known as the rabbit king. He got the name rabbit king while in Colorado, US due to his passion for rabbits. It is a name he maintains to date. He has about 500 rabbits on his farm. His farm also houses 40 dairy goats and kienyeji chicken.

Gitonga Runo is a fish farmer from the Kalimoni area in the Juja sub-county. He ventured into this business together with his wife. The two also engage in vegetable farming and floriculture. They ventured into fish farming after retiring from their previous farm. They realized there is a lot they can do with their farm and thus came the idea of fish farming.

Charles Wathobio, a former graphic designer, is an urban farmer based in Ongata Rongai. He mainly focuses on dairy farming and specifically goat farming. Apart from Kenya, his client base extends to Uganda and Tanzania. He owns about 40 goats of which 30 are for milking. Each goat produces between 1 to 3 liters a day.

Finding fresh vegetables that have been grown under the right conditions can sometimes be hard in Nairobi. To combat this problem, Lucy Karingithi opted to open up her grocery supermarket(Mboga Masters) in Syokimau. Upon completing his master’s degree in Britain, Lucy’s son Jeremy Karingithi joined her. Part of the fresh produce sold at Mboga Masters is sourced from Lucy’s farm.

Samuel Mbugua Muchai, a biochemistry graduate, quit his job at a flexible packaging firm to venture into agribusiness, specifically pig farming. He is the Managing Partner at Granduer Africa. Shortly after he and his partners ventured into the business, the government introduced a VAT on all animal feeds. This increase in the price of animal feeds led Samuel and his partners to consider hydroponic fodder as an alternative.

George Kanyingi is a telecommunications engineer by profession. He started farming rabbits in the year 2014. He started the business by buying his daughter two rabbits for his daughters to play with. With time their numbers increased and George soon realized he can make money from these rabbits. This led to the creation of George’s farm, Navina Farm.

RABAK(Rabbit Breeders Association of Kenya) is an association of small-scale farmers in Kenya. It was started to promote food security and generate wealth and employment for farmers and the larger community. They offer a market to rabbit farmers in Kenya.

Kenya smart climate agriculture project is an initiative of the Kenyan government in association with the World Bank to increase agricultural productivity and build resilience to climate change risks in the targeted smallholder farming and pastoral communities in Kenya, and in the event of an eligible crisis or emergency, to provide an immediate effective response. The project is implemented using five components, that is, 1)upscaling climate-smart agricultural processes, 2)strengthening climate-smart agricultural research and seed systems, 3)supporting the agro-weather market, climate, and advisory services, 4)project coordination and management, 5)contingency emergency response.
